If you love wine and beautiful scenery, this is the trip for you! Experience the grandeur of San Francisco, three spectacular and diverse wine regions, and the excitement of Los Angeles in one tour! After two fun days in San Francisco you will be heading to beautiful Napa Sonoma, then on to the historic El Dorado region of the Gold Country and then the rugged and scenic Santa Barbara region, each known for excellence in certain wine varietals. The trip finishes up in trendy sun drenched Los Angeles.
Day 1: San Francisco
Arrive at San Francisco International Airport and check in at the Hertz rental office. Pick up the vehicle you chose for your tour (Sedan, convertible, van, or SUV). Enter the address of your San Francisco Hotel into the Hertz “never lost” Navigational System and enjoy your stress free drive to your beautiful hotel! Drop off your luggage and start exploring one of the great cities in the world!
Day 2: San Francisco
Enjoy breakfast at your hotel and then head down to Fisherman’s Wharf. From there you will be boarding the Bay Cruise for a tour of the famous Alcatraz Island and prison. The beautiful cruise on the bay and the visit to the island are sure to be one of the highlights of your day. The afternoon can be spent sightseeing or shopping. All ITT tours include a current top 10 list of restaurants, and a top ten list of attractions in each area you visit to maximize every minute of your vacation!.
Day 3: Sonoma
After breakfast its time to head to the beautiful wine country of Napa Sonoma. You will first travel across the incredible Golden Gate Bridge, make sure you stop and take some pictures! Visit some wineries (we will provide you with a list of the best ones to visit) and explore the town of Sonoma, one of the first settlements in California. By this time you will be ready to check into your beautiful lodge, your home for the next two nights.
Day 4: Sonoma
Today after a hearty breakfast you will be exploring “the valley of the moon” by bicycle. The tour visits outstanding wineries in the Sonoma Kenwood area revealing the history and beauty of the countryside on quiet roads. Bike riders of all abilities will be comfortable with this tour which includes a gourmet lunch. This area of California is known for its outstanding Cabernet Sauvignons, Merlots, and Champagnes. You may be ready for one of the areas famous spas after the ride!
Day 5: Sutter Creek
Enjoy breakfast then begin your journey to the historic Gold Country and home to superb California Zinfandels. After about an hour you will arrive in restored Old Sacramento a fun lunch stop and a great chance to learn more about the California Gold Rush at the Gold Rush History Center. Then it is on to charming Sutter Creek, a wonderful small Gold Rush settlement and your home for the next two nights.
Day 6: Sutter Creek
Today after a hearty breakfast you will be going to the Sutter Gold Mine, a historic hard rock mine near Sutter Creek. You will learn all about gold mining and get to go into the mine and experience sights only usually seen by miners! For lunch and the afternoon you will be visiting one of the finest wine regions in California, you will love the sights and smells of this special region. We know the best wineries to visit and will include a list of the ones not to miss!
Day 7: Solvang
After breakfast you will be driving south through the vast agricultural region of the San Joaquin Valley to the majestic Hearst Castle perched on a mountaintop on the Pacific Coast. After your tour of the castle you will be traveling down the Pacific Coast to Solvang, an authentic Danish village surrounded by vineyards and the coast range of California. You will be amazed by the Danish food and shopping in this small hamlet.
Day 8: Solvang
After a leisurely morning we suggest you spend the day exploring the wonderful countryside of this special part of California. We will supply you with maps and information on the best wineries to visit and great places to eat. This region is known for its outstanding Chardonnays and Pinot noirs, plus many other exceptional varietals in more than 70 vineyards.
Day 9: Los Angeles
After breakfast you will be driving to Los Angeles, your home for the last two days of the tour. You will be driving south along the picturesque coastline to Santa Barbara where you can stop and have a relaxed lunch along the waterfront and a walk on the beach. From there you will be driving to Los Angeles, home to movie stars and one of the largest and most exciting places around. As in all our tours we will supply you with a top ten list of attractions and restaurants so you will always enjoy every minute of your trip.
Day 10: Los Angeles
After breakfast you will be heading to the world famous Getty Center. The Getty Center presents Getty’s collection of Western Art from the Middle Ages to the present against a backdrop of dramatic architecture, tranquil gardens and breathtaking views. After lunch its time to do some major shopping at Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, and a ride through the streets of movie stars. We will supply you will all the information you will need to have fun visiting these incredible places.
Day 11: Los Angeles
After breakfast enjoy your short drive to the Los Angeles Airport. Depending on your schedule we can recommend some more places to visit on the way!
